Jordan Hankins is a Las Vegas native and a former K-12 student in the Clark County School District. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Master of Arts degree in Urban Leadership and Public Policy, Jordan's passion for education and community development led her to pursue a Doctorate degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

In 2013, Jordan co-founded the 'Curly Locks Foundation,' a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education, health, and wellness among young, underserved girls of color in the Las Vegas community. This experience ignited her commitment to addressing inequities and advocating for educational opportunities for marginalized youth.

Building on her academic achievements and community engagement, Jordan gained valuable experience working on various local and national democratic campaigns as an organizing director. It was during this time that she developed a deep interest in education policy and recognized the pressing need to support Black teachers in the Clark County School District.

In 2022, Jordan took a significant step towards bridging the racial educational attainment gaps in Southern Nevada by launching the Southern Nevada Black Educators Initiative. This groundbreaking initiative focuses on recruiting and retaining Black pre-service and in-service teachers to create a more equitable and inclusive educational system.

To further enhance the efforts of the Southern Nevada Black Educators Initiative, Jordan designed the Amplifying Black Voices critical mentorship program. This program serves as a vital mechanism for increasing retention and graduation rates among Black undergraduate education majors at UNLV, while also promoting a sense of community, celebrating culture, and embracing diversity. It empowers Black pre-service teachers to become leaders within the education community and advocates for educational equity.

In 2022, Jordan co-authored the influential publication, "Reflections and Perspectives on Education from Southern Nevada's Black Students, Teachers, and School Leaders," shedding light on the experiences and perspectives of the Black community within the educational system. Drawing from her own journey as a CCSD student who narrowly avoided the school-to-prison pipeline, Jordan has become a passionate advocate for educational equity and social justice.

Jordan Hankins' unwavering dedication and commitment to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for marginalized communities have positioned her as a transformative leader in the field. Through her advocacy and innovative initiatives, Jordan continues to drive positive change and inspire others to join the journey towards a more equitable and inclusive education system.
