LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY

The Southern Nevada Black Educators Initiative’s Policy Committee arrived in Carson City on March 14, 2023, with a mission to deepen our work through policies that support the recruitment and retention of Black teachers and legislation that meets the needs of our students in Nevada. SNBEI Day at the Nevada Legislature was a follow-up to our Black Educators Legislative Forum to continue meaningful discussions with elected officials and to establish members of SNBEI’s Policy Committee as education experts. Please note that SNBEI is an action-oriented and results-driven grassroots non-profit organization. We don’t just talk about it, we are deeply engaged in this WORK. In other words, “We Be About It.”

The 82nd (2023) Session of the Nevada Legislature will begin on February 6, 2023. SNBEI has established our organization as education experts and we demand that legislators keep SNBEI members involved in the discussion surrounding Nevada's Pre-k12 education system; specifically recruitment and retention strategies of Black preservice and in-service teachers. The virtual forum will serve as a precursor to our upcoming trip to the 2023 Nevada Legislature.
